Guns are all over Georgia public colleges and universities, including Georgia State University.
“I do carry on campus, not necessarily in the class cause I feel like you don’t need it in class but I do feel safer being able to carry it around campus because I have seen robberies,” says Creig Benton.
Students being armed with guns on campus forces police into additional training.
“Well now that we have campus carry we have to retrain our dispatchers and our officers on how to approach someone who may be armed with a weapon, he may have a permit,” says Georgia State University Police Chief Joseph Spillane.
Some Georgia State students voiced their concerns about guns on campus.
“Personally, I think that adding more guns to the equation will only increase the violence and the crime rather than decrease it,” says Kaleb Sjogren.

“I think I have a pretty bias opinion because I feel like students were bringing guns on campus before they were allowed to so I don’t see what’s the difference,” says Javen Hilton.
As students & faculty adjust to this new way of life, one thing remains, it will engender discussions on both sides of the issue.
