Loud engines and sirens from several firetrucks is what many neighbors woke up to early Tuesday morning when smoke started coming out of an apartment building in southwest Atlanta.
As first responders were on the scene they were quickly evacuating tenants from a building at the Lakewood Forest apartments. A firefighter said that the smoke was coming from a small closet in the apartment.
No one was hurt or injured according to apartment complex management. “The smoke started from a small utility closet however, we will be investigating on how exactly the smoke started,” said Lakewood Forest Management.

Nearby tenants could be seen watching the incident and recording from their cell phones as firefighters were preparing to climb a ladder up to the top unit of the second-story building.
Joyce Jones, a tenant from the next building over said the firetrucks and the chaotic scene scared her as she is concerned for the tenants in that unit.
“This complex has had its share of fires in the past. A fire had consumed the building in the back of the complex a few years ago so all of this brings back very unfortunate memories,” said Jones.
“We are doing our best to provide housing for the victims at one of our sister complexes. The Red Cross and other organizations have offered their assistance in providing support for the family affected,” said Lakewood Forest Management.
This complex has witnessed a similar event in, February 2015.
when 14 adults and seven children were displaced after a gruesome fire destroyed an entire building.
