On Sunday morning, The Signal Editor-in-Chief Troi Charity conducted a meeting in the newsroom with a new team of enthusiastic journalist who are dedicated to reporting the facts and serving the Georgia State community. The Signal is more than just a Georgia State newspaper. The Signal acts as voice for the student body. The team of 14 listened intently as Charity discussed various roles and important information needed to serve the student body, whose population is more than 54,000 since the merger with Georgia Perimeter College. “The newspaper is a team effort which starts from the reporters getting the stories, to the editors editing the stories, to the photographers getting the photos needed to give the story an extra mile, to the designers making a great design in which it draws the reader in and back to the editors to edit the entire thing and then the paper is out on stands,” says Charity. The Signal carries itself to a very high standard of ethical reporting and in doing so finds pride in collaborating with a team who honors and upholds those values.

Georgia State sophomore, Jalen Jenkins, stated The Signal feels very professional. “It was pretty good and overwhelming but I don’t think it’s anything I can’t handle,” says Jenkins when asked about his overall thoughts about the meeting. Editorial writers are the majority of this new team, however there was one photographer in the midst. Student photographer, Dylan Jones stated that it will be good for him to acquire new background training in what he will be doing. “Photography is a technical development for me so far and getting to know the structure of what a cutline is,” says Jones.
The Signal has been in existence since 1933 and continues to operate in the very same fashion that allows students to express their creative ideas and talents by contributing to their very own independent newspaper. The Signal produces more than 7,000 copies weekly reaching as far north as Alpharetta, Georgia and also publishes daily content online. The chart below shows the breakdown of the new team.
